COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland's Crystal Langhorne was voted one of the top-five players in the nation, as she was named to the Associated Press' Preseason All-American team, which was announced Tuesday. She has been selected to the preseason squad for the second-straight year.
Entering her final season with the Terps, Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) is a preseason candidate for the WBCA State Farm Wade Trophy and the John R. Wooden Award. Both are national player of the year honors. Langhorne is a two-time AP All-American, earning a spot on the team at the end of the last two seasons. She has also been selected an All-American by the United State Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) twice and the Women's Basketball Coaches Associates (WBCA) last year.
Last year, Langhorne became only the third player in NCAA history to lead the nation in field goal percentage two years in a row, converting on 70.7 percent of her shot attempts last year. She was just 1.7 percent shy of tying the NCAA record. Helping Maryland advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in her three seasons and the 2006 National Championship, she is third on Maryland's all-time scoring list, having netted 1,711 points in her career. She is also second on the career rebounding list at 939. She is a three-time All-ACC pick and was recently voted the conference's Preseason Player of the Year.
Joining Langhorne on the preseason squad are Tennessee's Candice Parker, Oklahoma's Courtney Paris, Stanford's Candice Wiggins and LSU's Sylvia Fowles. The Terps face the Sooners and Paris on Sunday, Nov. 11 in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic. The game airs on ESPN2. Langhorne could also battle Fowles in the Preseason WNIT.
The Terps open the season this weekend hosting Princeton in the first round of the Preseason WNIT on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available through the Comcast Center Ticket Office by calling 1-800-IM-A-TERP or by visiting www.umterps.com.
