COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Stephen King was named the Soccer America Player of the Week for the second time this season after his five-point performance on November 3 in a 4-1 win against No. 14 Virginia. King was also named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week and the ACC Player of the Week.
The captain tallied a goal against the Cavaliers while becoming the seventh player in Terrapins history to record three assists in a game. It was King's 89th start as a Terp, tying the school record for most starts in a career set by Keith Beach (1995-98).
King was also named the Soccer America Player of the Week after the Terps' opening weekend at Indiana on September 5. He recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win against then-No. 10 Notre Dame.
King has 12 assists this season which leads the ACC and is currently second in the country. He is just five helpers away from breaking the Maryland record for assists in a season held by Gino Ferrin (1985) and Beach (1998) who both had 14.
King also improved his career assists total to 32 which is now tied for second with Eberhard Klein who had the same number from 1962-64. Beach is the all-time leader as he assisted on 35 goals from 1995-98. King's 92 points ranks sixth all-time and he is eight points away from becoming just the fourth player in Maryland history to eclipse the 100-point mark. His 30 career goals put him just one score outside the top 10 on the career charts.
King and the Terps, who have not lost in nine games, head to North Carolina on Friday, November 9 to face the Tar Heels in the regular season finale.
