GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Maryland senior center Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) had a successful return to the starting lineup last week, shooting 70 percent from the field and averaging over nine rebounds a game to help lead the Terps to a flawless 10-0 start to the season. Langhorne's production paid off, as she was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Langhorne shared the honor with Virginia's Monica Wright.
It is the fourth time in Langhorne's distinguished career that she has been honored as the ACC Player of the Week and it is the third time in four weeks this season that a Terp has received the honor. Junior Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College) won it three weeks ago and junior Kristi Toliver (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) did the same two weeks ago.
Langhorne, who missed six of the Terps' first seven games this season due to an ankle injury, showed no rust in her first start in 16 days last Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Panthers, recording the 45th double-double of her career with 15 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 6-for-8 from the floor.
Last Friday against No. 19/17 Ohio State, Langhorne had her highest scoring output of the season, scoring a team-high 17 points in the team's 24-point victory over the Buckeyes in the inaugural ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
The third-ranked Terps return to the court Monday night in a nationally-televised game at No. 4/6 Rutgers. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. on ESPN2 as part of the Jimmy V. Classic.
Barring anything unforeseen, it will be a historic night for Langhorne and the Terps. Langhorne needs only two rebounds to tie the school's all-time mark with Vicky Bullett at 968.
