
Hollenbach Named Maryland Player of the Year at Annapolis Touchdown Club

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Former Terps quarterback Sam Hollenbach received the Louis L. Goldstein Memorial Gold Helmet Award as the University of Maryland Player of the Year at the 53rd Annual Touchdown Club of Annapolis banquet which was held Thursday evening at the DoubleTree Hotel.
This honor is given every year to a standout Terrapin football player. Previous winners included Vernon Davis, E.J. Henderson, and D'Qwell Jackson.
Hollenbach was chosen to receive the award after a breakthrough senior season in which he threw for over 2,300 yards and 15 touchdowns. Hollenbach led the team to a 9-4 record, along with a win in the Champs Sports Bowl, where he was named game MVP. He finished his career at Maryland with 5,139 yards, ranking him fourth all time in passing yards behind Boomer Esiason, Scott Milanovich and Scott McBrien.
Jack Lengyel, former head coach of Marshall University, was the guest speaker at the event, and David Mahoney, a senior linebacker from the United States Naval Academy received the Tony Rubino Memorial Silver Helmet award as the Midshipmen MVP.
