GREENSBORO, N.C. - Redshirt freshman Hudson Taylor has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week, announced today by the conference office. Taylor went 2-0 in wins against Virginia and George Mason this past weekend with both victories coming by way of fall.
Taylor, ranked No. 15 at 197 pounds last week, finished the regular season 24-7 and went 18-3 in dual action. In conference duals, he was unblemished with a 5-0 record with three falls. His 12 pins this season is the most on the team.
On Friday in Maryland's 30-12 win against Virginia, Taylor pinned Kyle Narkiewicz 2:59 into the match. Against Harry Zander of George Mason, he got the fall at 3:46. The Terps took care of the Patriots, 32-6.
Maryland has garnered more Wrestler of the Week accolades than any other team in the conference with five. Junior Charlie Pinto was the first Terp to win the award on November 20 and senior Jason Kiessling has been honored twice on December 4 and January 15. Sophomore James Knox was also selected as the Wrestler of the Week on January 29.
The Terps, who went 5-0 in the ACC and clinched its first dual meet championship since 1974, will take part in the 2007 ACC Championship on Saturday, March 3. The event is being hosted by NC State and will take place at the Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh.
