Maryland Returns Home for a Super Bowl Matchup
The No. 4 Terrapins return home looking to snap a two-game losing streak, hosting Boston College on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. It is the first time in two years Maryland has suffered back-to-back losses.
Sunday's meeting is only the third between the teams. Maryland defeated Boston College twice last year. The Eagles went on to advance to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
Maryland will make its seventh television appearance of the season on Sunday. The game will be televised on the ACC's Regional Sports Network (Comcast SportsNet in the Baltimore/Washington area, Fox Sports South and Sun Sports).
Fans can also follow the game on the radio on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network (Flagship - ESPN 1300AM Baltimore). Matt Noble and Dave Preston will make the call on the airwaves.
Last Time Out
The Terps lost to an unranked opponent for the first time in two years, suffering an upset at Georgia Tech, 77-72. It was also the second-straight loss for Maryland, the first time in two years its has lost back-to-back games.
The Terrapins could not overcome 24 turnovers and 33 fouls, despite four players reaching double figures. Maryland trailed by 13 at the half, 40-27, but opened the second half, outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 13-7, to cut the lead to 47-41 with 14:40 left in the game. GT pushed the lead back up to 58-44, the Terps' largest deficit of the game, then trailed by double digits at 72-62 with just over a minute to play. Maryland cut it to five in the last seconds but could not get any closer as the Jackets sealed the win on free throws.
Marissa Coleman led the team with 17 points, while Crystal Langhorne and Kristi Toliver added 13 points each. Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood chipped in 12 from the bench.
Game After Game
At Georgia Tech, senior Shay Doron put on her uniform for the 124th time in her career, the most of any Terrapin in school history. Doron broke Christy Winters' record for most games played. She played in 123 games from 1987-80.
Doron is also on the verge of starting in the most games in school history. She has been etched in the starting lineup 109 times, eight games fewer than former Terp Marché Strickland (1999-2002), who holds the school record.
About Boston College
Boston College is 11-11 overall, 1-7 in ACC play. The Eagles have lost their last three games in a row, with its last victory coming at home against Clemson on Jan. 21.
BC has not had much success on the road, winning just one game away from home at Holy Cross on Dec. 21.
Kathrin Ress has taken on most of the load on the offensive end for the Eagles. She's averaging 17.2 points per game, the only player on the team averaging double digits. She's also the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 8.5 rebounds per game. BC is scoring 61.4 ppg on the season and limiting opponents to 58.9 ppg, the fourth-best scoring defense in the ACC.
SERIES VS. BC: The Terps and the Eagles met for the first time in the history of both program's last season. Maryland welcomed BC into the league by defeating the Eagles on their home court. The teams squared off against later in the season in Comcast Center where the Terps took care of Boston College in regulation.
Good For at Least 10
National Player of the Year candidate Crystal Langhorne has reached double-figure scoring in 24 of the Terps' 24 games this season. She had a streak of 44-straight double-figure scoring games dating back to last season until the Wake Forest win.
In 94 career games, Langhorne has scored in double figures in all but seven games.
Terps' House
Maryland is 12-1 this season in the friendly confines of Comcast Center. The Terps had a 19-game home winning streak, which dated back to their defeat of Florida State on Jan. 16, 2006, snapped by North Carolina on Jan. 28.
Maryland has lost just two home games over the last two seasons, posting a record of 31-2. Last year, the Terps won a school-record 15 home games. They are 39-23 all-time at Comcast Center.

Fans have just two more opportunities to watch the Terrapins at home, as the reigning national champions host Virginia Tech on Thursday, Feb. 8.
