COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland Terrapins Shay Doron and Crystal Langhorne have been voted to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 team. Both were named to the first team and move on to the national Academic All-America ballot. The teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standings and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20.
It is the third-straight year senior Shay Doron (Ramat Hasharon, Israel/Christ the King [N.Y.]) has been selected to the academic all-district team, the second time she's been named to the first team. Doron was a second team Academic All-American last season, as well.
In her final semester at the University of Maryland, Doron is the team's third leading scorer (12.2 ppg) this season and is second on Maryland's all-time scoring list (1,783 points). A three-time All-ACC honoree, the preseason Wade Trophy, Naismith and Wooden Award candidate is a Criminology & Criminal Justice major and boasts a 3.67 GPA.
Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro), the only junior on the first team, was on the second team last year. A two-time All-ACC selection, earning first team nods last year, she is the team's leading scorer (14.6 ppg) and rebounder (7.6 rpg). She leads the nation in field goal shooting (.729), while also sporting a 3.4 GPA as a communications major.
Langhorne was recently selected one of 20 Midseason Wooden All-Americans and is also a preseason candidate for the Wade Trophy and Naismith Award.
The sixth-ranked Terrapins are in action tonight, Thursday, Feb. 8, then hit the road to Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 11. The game will be televised on the ACC's Regional Sports Network (Comcast SportsNet in the Baltimore/Washington area, Fox Sports South, Sun Sports), with tip off scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
