The University of Maryland women's water polo team defeated Marist 8-6 in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in Cambridge, Mass. today. With the score tied 5-5 four minutes into the fourth quarter, the Terrapin offense exploded and scored three in a one-minute span.

Senior goalie Marissa Corwin blocked five in a complete game effort between the pipes.
Maryland head coach Carl Salyer said, "We played good defense and dictated the tempo of the game. We will continue to work on converting our offensive opportunities into goals."
The Terps advance to the ECAC semi-finals tonight, facing CWPA Southern Division rival Princeton at 6:45 p.m.
