Maryland Hosts North Carolina On Senior Night

March 9, 2007

The No. 36 Maryland gymnastics team will face No. 32 North Carolina at home Saturday in the Comcast Center Pavilion at 4:00 p.m. This dual meet, the Terps' Senior/Alumni Night, is the last home competition of the regular season.

Maryland is looking to rebound from a rough meet last week against Penn State where it fell to the Nittany Lions, 195.275-191.600. North Carolina has not competed since February 23 when it was defeated by No.4 Alabama, 196.650-194.800. Saturday will be the third time of the season that the Terps and Tar Heels have faced each other. At the previous two meets, Maryland was topped by North Carolina.

Terrapin seniors Rachel Colon, Angela Ferg and Marisa St. Louis will be recognized for their achievements at Maryland.

"I have enjoyed watching these seniors mature into young ladies whose leadership has made me proud. They will forever have a place in our hearts," said head coach Bob Nelligan. "Also our alumni are very important to our success and future. Without their help and support we wouldn't be developing all our resources. It's great to have an evening to celebrate the present seniors and welcome back family friends."

Rachel Colon (Brightwaters, N.Y.) transferred to Maryland from Michigan and is a criminology major. This is her first year on the EAGL All-Academic team. During the 2004 and 2005 seasons, Colon competed on vault, uneven bars and balance beam. Last year she emerged as an all-around competitor with her career-high all-around score being a 39.25. She qualified to the 2006 Southeast NCAA Regionals as an all-arounder. Her individual event career-high scores are a 9.85 on vault, 9.825 on bars, a 9.90 on beam and a 9.85 on floor.

Angela Ferg (Bel Air, Md.) is a kinesiology major and a two-time EAGL All-Academic member. She began her career at Maryland as a walk-on gymnast specializing on the vault. After her sophomore year where she regularly contributed on the vault, balance beam and floor exercise, Ferg was offered a scholarship. Last season she qualified to the 2006 Southeast NCAA Regionals on the vault where she scored a 9.75. Her individual event career-high scores are a 9.875 on vault, a 9.85 on beam and a 9.825 on floor.

Marisa St. Louis (Hales Corners, Wis.) is a three-time EAGL All-Academic team member majoring in Art Studio. Hampered by injuries, St. Louis has been limited in the events she can compete, but has been able to compete on all four events at one least time for Maryland. She has emerged as a solid vault competitor this season for the Terrapins. Her individual event career-high scores are a 9.825 on vault, 9.775 on bars, a 9.60 on beam and a 9.875 on floor.
