The Maryland gymnastics team brought its 2007 season to a close at the team banquet on Sunday held in the Comcast Center's Heritage Hall. Several Terps were honored in front of family members and fans for their efforts this season.
The Iron Terp Award was given to senior Angela Ferg. Ferg was selected by strength coach Barry Kagan for her hard work in the weight room.
The Timex Award was given to the gymnasts who "kept on ticking." Freshmen Margaux Meeks and Allison Dama shared the award.
Junior Gretchen Kittelberger earned the Most Improved Gymnast honor. Kittelberger emerged as a solid all-around competitor by the end of the season.
Freshman Talia Tossone was named the Most Consistent Gymnast. Tossone competed thirteen beam routines this season and did not fall once.
Freshman Brandi George won two awards. George was named Rookie of the Year and 2007 Most Valuable Player.
Sophomore Kim Loew earned the Outstanding Achievement for her inspirational beam routine during EAGL Championships.
Sophomore Kelsey Nelligan was named the "Team Mom" for doing such a good job of looking after the six freshmen.
Co-captains Angela Ferg and Rachel Colon shared the Senior Leadership honor.
Maryland men's golfer Tyler Whitman received the "Driving Miss Daisy" Award. Whitman's car became known as the "freshmen bus", because he drove the freshmen almost anywhere they wanted to go.
