
Maryland Athletics Names WJFK 106.7 FM New D.C. Affiliate

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland athletics department, Terrapin Sports Marketing, and WJFK 106.7 FM announced Thursday a multi-year agreement in which the station will become the new Washington, D.C., affiliate for the Terrapin Sports Radio Network beginning July 1.
All Maryland football and men's basketball games, including postseason contests, will be heard in Washington, D.C., exclusively on WJFK-FM.
"Maryland Athletics is pleased to welcome WJFK-FM back into our Terrapin Sports Radio Network family," said Deborah A. Yow, director of athletics. "Our fans will enjoy the 22,500-watt FM signal and considerable marketing support WJFK has pledged to promote Maryland's 27 varsity sports."
Michael Hughes, senior vice-president and general manager of WJFK-FM, said, "106.7 WJFK has a rich history of presenting some of the great sports moments in this area. Our renewed relationship with the University of Maryland will deliver more of those highlights and is a perfect addition to our stellar programming line-up. We look forward to many years together."
The first event to be heard on WJFK 106.7 FM will be the 2007 football home opener on Sept. 1. That game, against Villanova, kicks off at 6 p.m., with radio coverage starting at 4:30 p.m.
"This partnership will provide Terps fans throughout the Washington metro area with improved programming and expanded coverage of Maryland athletics," said Christopher Janush, general manager of Terrapin Sports Marketing.
Hall of Famer Johnny Holliday will return for his 29th year as the play-by-play voice of the Terrapins for both football and men's basketball.
