
Maryland Men's Soccer Excels Academically

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team is not only successful on the field, but the Terrapins also achieve in the classroom. The Terps earned a team grade point average of 3.0 this past spring semester while Stephen King scored a perfect 4.0 in the classroom for the second time in three semesters.
King has been recognized nationally for his achievements in and out of the classroom. He was named an academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA and NSCAA/adidas as both put King on their respective third teams. In addition, King was an All-ACC Academic Team selection. His play on the field earned him All-South Atlantic Second Team and All-ACC Second Team recognition and he was also a Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Four members of the men's soccer team earned semester academic honors (Dean's List) from the university which is awarded to students who earned a 3.5 or higher semester GPA while completing 12 or more credits. Along with King, Aki Kadotani, Kevin Tangney, and Drew Yates each received this honor.
Eleven Terps earned a 3.0 or higher GPA in the spring semester, being named to the Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Along with the Terps already mentioned, Spencer Allen, Rich Costanzo, A.J. Delagarza, , Omar Gonzalez, Michael Marchiano, Tyler Mishalow, and Doug Rodkey were all recognized for their efforts in the classroom.
The 2006 Terps finished with a 16-5-1 record and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland will open its 2007 slate on August 31 and September 2 at Indiana. The Terps will square off with the Hoosiers on the 31st and then take on Notre Dame on the 2nd.
