Fennelly Completes Women's Basketball Staff

June 7, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's basketball coach Brenda Frese has completed her staff. Billy Fennelly becomes the newest addition to the staff, joining the Terrapins as the administrative assistant to the Recruiting Coordinator.

"This is a hire that I was very happy to make. I have known Billy and his family for a long time," said Frese. "I have no questions about his credentials. He brings an incredible basketball background, work ethic and will add a lot of energy and enthusiasm to our team and program."

Fennelly will also supervise and manage the team managers, and assist in the day-to-day operations of the team.

Fennelly graduated from Iowa State this past May with a degree in Sports Management. During his three years at ISU, he served as a student manager for the Cyclone women's basketball team. By his senior year, he supervised and coordinated the team's staff of managers. Also in his final year, he was the color commentator on the Iowa State Cyclones Women's Basketball Radio Network.

Fennelly has worked various basketball camps, including camps at Iowa State and Missouri State University, and was the camp director of Lil' Bill's Basketball Camp in Huxley, Iowa, last summer.

Fennelly is the son of Iowa State women's basketball head coach Bill Fennelly, who has led the Cyclones to 12 consecutive winning seasons and seven NCAA Tournament berths, including an Elite Eight appearance in 1999. Billy replaces Becky Bonner, who went on to become the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Louisville.

Along with Frese and assistant coach Erica Floyd, the Maryland women's basketball staff is now complete. Fennelly joins new staff members assistant coaches Daron Park and Diane Richardson, and Director of Basketball Operations Rhet Wierzba.

The 2007-08 campaign kicks off with the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 9 (pairings and brackets will be announced at a later date). Maryland is also hosting Ohio State on Nov. 30 for the first Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Season tickets are already available for purchase at the Comcast Center Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP or by visiting www.umterps.com.
