GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Josh Haines and junior Andrew Schlaffer were both tabbed to the 2007 All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team, announced June 29 by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Haines and Schlaffer both started on last year's team that had its most successful season in program history.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Haines, a criminal justice major, finished the 2006-07 campaign with a 10-7 record at 184 pounds, including an 8-3 mark in duals. Included in that record is one fall and two technical falls. He opened the season with a win at Rider in his first dual action of the season after battling through the beginning of the year with an injury. Haines finished fourth at the ACC Championships.
Schlaffer, who majors in art studio, went 17-15 overall at 149 pounds with a 12-8 record in dual competition. He was second on the team with three technical falls and fourth with five major decisions. Schlaffer was the 2006 ACC Champion at 149 pounds.
Both wrestlers started for the most successful Maryland team in program history. The Terrapins went 17-5 in the regular season, tied for the most wins in school history, and went a perfect 5-0 in conference action to capture its first outright ACC title since 1974. The Terps finished second at the ACC Championships, its best showing since 1990.
