`Terrapins Rising' To Air Nationally

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The early success of `Terrapins Rising,' a reality television show chronicling Maryland's recently completed spring football practice, has moved it into the national spotlight.
The 10-episode series, which is being presented by Under Armour, debuted regionally on Monday, June 25 on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. The 30-minute show, which airs at 8 p.m. (ET) each Monday for 10 consecutive weeks on the regional sports network, will also be telecast on the FOX College Sports Network, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and Comcast Sports Southeast, starting this week.
In addition, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic will re-broadcast the show at least twice, at 8 p.m. each Tuesday and leading into the following week's episode. Last week's initial episode will be shown on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic at 7:30 p.m. this evening, leading into episode two at 8 p.m.
FOX College Sports will begin airing the series on Thursday, July 19. Episodes one and two will air that night on FOX Sports Atlantic starting at 9:30 p.m. (ET). The network will show two episodes each of the following two Thursdays (beginning at 9:30 p.m.) before episode No. 7 appears on Thursday, Aug, 9 (10 p.m. on FOX College Sports Atlantic), No. 8 on Aug. 16 (9:30 p.m. on FOX College Sports Central) and No. 9 on Aug. 23 (9:30 p.m. on FOX College Sports Central).
FOX College Sports Atlantic will also air a `Terrapins Rising Marathon' (the first nine episodes) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug.30, leading up to the series finale at 9:30 p.m.
The series finale will air first on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, with the show scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27.
Comcast Sports Southeast will begin airing `Terrapins Rising' Friday. Episode one will be telecast at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and each week at the same time thereafter until Friday, Aug. 24.
Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia begins airing the mini-series at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The first eight shows will run at the same time each Wednesday until Aug. 22.
Time slots for the final two episodes on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and Comcast Sports Southeast have yet to be determined.
Footage for the show was shot throughout the five weeks of spring practice, which concluded on April 28 with the annual Red-White Game.
`Terrapins Rising,' a first of its kind television show at the collegiate level, is the result of a partnership between Maryland Athletics, Under Armour and Atkinson and Company. A film crew, led by former University of Maryland and Washington Redskins place-kicker Jess Atkinson, followed the team before, during and after each practice. The crew also sat in on team and positional meetings, as well as a number of off-the-field activities.
Atkinson, owner of Atkinson and Company, has worked with the university the past six years, producing Fridge TV and video segments for the school's athletics Web site, umterps.com. `Fridge TV,' the Terps' weekly football television show, is broadcast during the regular season on Comcast SportsNet.
The Terps open fall practice on Monday, Aug. 6 and kick off the regular season on Saturday, Sept. 1 when they play host to Villanova at 6 p.m. from Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium.
