GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Maryland senior guard Andrew Crummey and sophomore wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey were voted to the 2007 Preseason All-ACC team by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA), the league office announced Wednesday.
Crummey and Heyward-Bey were consensus choices on the preseason all-league teams.
A preseason All-America choice by The Sporting News, Crummey was also a first-team all-conference selection by Athlon, Blue Ribbon Yearbook, Lindy's and Street and Smith's, as well as The Sporting News.
Crummey was a second-team All-ACC performer last season and has started 23 of the last 24 games at right guard.
Heyward-Bey was a preseason first-team choice for All-ACC by Athlon, Lindy's and The Sporting News. The dynamic second-year player was also one of just two underclassmen voted to the ACSMA preseason team, joining sophomore DB Myron Rolle of Miami.
Heyward-Bey set the Maryland freshman record for receiving yards in 2006 with 694, a mark which also ranks third all-time among first-year ACC players.
Matt Ryan of Boston College, the 2006 All-ACC quarterback, was the preseason player of the year choice, receiving 31 votes in the balloting. Virginia Tech junior running back Branden Ore was second, being named on 21 ballots.
Maryland reports to preseason camp on Monday, Aug. 6 and kicks off the 2007 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 when it plays host to Villanova at 6 p.m. from Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium.
Season tickets for this fall's six-game home slate start as low as $162 and are on sale through the Maryland Athletics Ticket Office. Fans may call 1-800-IM-A-TERP or visit umterps.com for more information.
