COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 9 Maryland men's soccer team will host its final friendly of the preseason when it takes on VCU on Friday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Ludwig Field. The Terrapins have scored six goals in their two victories led by senior Stephen King and junior Graham Zusi who have both hit the back of the net twice.
Maryland defeated the University of Montreal on August 22, 3-2, after knocking off Fairleigh Dickinson on August 18, 3-0, in its preseason opener. King scored twice against the Knights in last Saturday's match while Zusi paced the Terps against Montreal with a pair of his own. Zusi has also added two assists to lead the team with six points.
Sophomore Drew Yates has pitched in with a goal and an assist while freshman Billy Cortes has also scored a goal. Sophomore Jeremy Hall and newcomer Rodney Wallace have contributed with assists.
VCU has played just 30 minutes of preseason action as its game against Virginia on August 19 had to be stopped due to severe weather. The game was going to be made up the next day, but more inclement weather cancelled the match altogether.
The Terps open the 2007 regular season with the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington. Maryland takes on No. 7 Indiana on August 31 and then No. 10 Notre Dame on September 2.
