BALTIMORE, Md. - Graduated seniors Becky Clipp and Katie Doolittle joined sophomore Caitlyn McFadden as the 2007-08 United States Elite and Developmental women's lacrosse teams were announced following a three-day tryout at UMBC coordinated by US Lacrosse. Former Terrapins Quinn Carney and Acacia Walker were both named to the Elite team.
The players on the two teams represent 21 total colleges with Maryland, Princeton, and Virginia each having five selections. The next activity for the US teams will be at the Stars & Stripes Weekend in October in Portland, Oregon.
Clipp, an IWLCA/US Lacrosse Second Team All-American and an All-ACC selection in 2007, anchored the Maryland defense and was second on the team with 29 caused turnovers, third with 36 ground balls, and sixth with 20 draw controls. She sealed the win against No. 2 Duke on March 3 when she drew a charge on the Blue Devils' last possession. She was later named the womenslax.com Player of the Week for her effort.
Doolittle started in every game since 2005 and controlled the midfield for the Terps. In 2007, she was third on the team with 29 draw controls, fifth with 27 goals, and sixth with 26 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Doolittle was an All-ACC honoree last season.
McFadden is just one of three players selected to the Developmental team that just completed their freshman campaign. She was a force all over the field for Maryland as a rookie, starting all 20 games and scoring 18 goals while her 17 assists were fourth on the team. McFadden was also third on the squad with 29 draw controls, fourth with 21 caused turnovers, and fifth with 27 ground balls.
Carney, a World Cup veteran, highlights the Elite team for the Americans. Carney played at Maryland from 1998-2001 and left with 110 assists which ranks third all-time. Her 272 career points are fourth in College Park and her 162 goals are fifth. Carney was a two-time All-American and All-ACC selection in the red and black.
Walker ranks eighth all-time at Maryland in career assists with 77 and her 108 goals gave her 185 points as a Terp. She was also a two-time All-American and All-ACC honoree.
