COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 21 Maryland wrestling team travels to Chapel Hill on Sunday, January 13 to take on North Carolina at 1:00 p.m. in the ACC opener for both schools. The Terrapins (8-3) are coming off of a 21-18 win at No. 22 Navy Thursday night, their second win against a ranked team this season, while the Tar Heels (3-2) went 2-1 at the Lone Star Duals last weekend. The match will be broadcast live on ACC Select.
Maryland's win over Navy was a historic one as it was the first time the Terps won in Annapolis in 22 years. It was also the first time they had beaten the Midshipmen since 1997. Maryland now has two wins this season against nationally ranked foes as it also beat then No. 5 Michigan, 18-16, back on November 24.
In the win against Navy, sophomore Hudson Taylor, ranked No. 8 at 197 pounds, earned his 12th pin of the season. Junior Josh Haines, ranked No. 18 at 184 pounds, also won his match while senior Charlie Pinto returned to action after recovering from an injury, recording the clinching win at 141 pounds.
North Carolina went 2-1 at the Lone Star Duals last weekend with easy wins over Brown and Harvard before losing to No. 18 Oklahoma, 27-6. The Tar Heels feature a pair of ranked wrestlers as Keegan Mueller is No. 13 at 165 pounds and Justin Dobies is No. 18 at the heavyweight division. Both individuals are undefeated in dual match ups.
