No. 4 Terps Travel to Face Long-Time Rival Virginia
The first team in the nation to win 20 games, fourth-ranked Maryland travels to face long-time rival Virginia on Friday, Jan. 18. The Terps are looking to win their fifth-straight game over the Cavaliers, a feat they have not achieved since 1989.
Senior Crystal Langhorne needs just five points to become Maryland's all-time scoring leader. She is already Maryland's all-time men's or women's rebounding leader.
The Terrapins are looking to go 5-0 in the ACC for the first time since the 1991-92 campaign. They have posted their fourth-straight 20-win campaign, the first time the program has reached the 20-win plateau in four-consecutive seasons.
Maryland's 10-game win streak matches the longest win streak of the season. It has played the most games in the nation (21).
The game will be televised regionally on the ACC's Regional Sports Network (Comcast SportsNet Plus in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area). About the Cavaliers
Virginia is 13-4 and 2-0 in the ACC, averaging 14.0 point margins of victories. The Cavaliers have won their last seven games, claiming ACC victories over Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Th Cavs have three players averaging double figures, led by Monica Wright's 17.6 points per game. UVA is among the top three-point shooting teams in the nation, ranking 12th in the category as of Jan. 12, sporting a 39.3 long range shooting percentage. Aisha Mohammed is averaging a team-best 9.1 rebounds per game, to go along with 12.6 ppg, which is third on the team.
Head coach Debbie Ryan has mentored the Cavaliers for 30 years, leading the team to over 650 victories.
SERIES HISTORY vs. UVA: The Cavaliers lead the all-time series, 40-27, however, Maryland was won the last five meetings. The Terps have not had much luck in Charlottesville, winning only five games on UVA's home court since the series began in 1977. But Maryland said farewell to the old University Hall with a win in 2004, the first in Charlottesville since 1992, and won the first meeting between the teams in John Paula Jones Arena with a victory last year, as well.
Langhorne Approaching All-Time Scoring Record
Two-time All-American Crystal Langhorne has broken numerous records and reached a number of milestones during her succesful career at Maryland. With about half of her senior campaign still remaining, she is not done leaving her mark in the record books.
Already breaking the all-time rebounding record in the Terps' game at Rutgers, Langhorne now has the Maryland all-time scoring record within sight.
Langhorne needs just five points to break Vicky Bullett's mark of 1,928. She currently ranks second on the scoring list with 1,924 points, only the second player in school history with at least 1,900 career points.
Give Me 20
Maryland was the first team in the nation to win 20 games with its Jan. 14 win over No. 10/13 Duke. With the win, head coach Brenda Frese has led the Terps to four-straight 20-win seasons, the first time in the history of the program they have accomplished the feat.
The Terrapins were also the first team to win 10 games, playing 14 games in the first 31 days of the season.
Coming Up
Maryland closes out a three-game week back at home, hosting Georgia Tech on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. The Yellow Jackets were one of only three teams last year to defeat the Terrapins.
