CHICAGO, Ill. - Seven former Maryland men's soccer players have been invited to their respective United States National Team training camps, announced December 31 by US Soccer. Four Terrapins were called to the National Team training camp while three more were summoned to the U-23 National Team camp. The Terps and UCLA are the two college programs with the most invites in the nation.

Dan Califf, Maurice Edu, Clarence Goodson, and Taylor Twellman were all invited to the National Team training camp by head coach Bob Bradley. The 26 players called will prepare for the United States' first match of 2008, a friendly against Sweden on January 19 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The team will begin workouts on January 3 at the US Soccer National Training Center in Carson.

Califf, a defender who captains Aalborg BK of the Danish Superliga, appeared in the USA's wins against Switzerland and South Africa in 2007. He has accumulated 18 caps in his international career. Califf was named an All-American in 1999 as a member of the Terps.

Edu, a first team All-American for the Terps in 2006 and the first overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft in 2007, was named the 2007 MLS Rookie of the Year this past season for Toronto FC. He started all 25 of the matches he appeared in at midfield, scoring four goals and adding an assist. He played 2,180 minutes for the expansion franchise which was third most on the team. Edu appeared in two games for the United States last year, starting against Switzerland and South Africa.

Goodson started 27 games he played in for FC Dallas in 2007 as a defender. He also scored a goal and an assist for a team that advanced to the playoffs. Goodson is one of seven players invited to the National Team camp who has not yet earned an international cap.

Twellman has been a dominant figure on attack for the New England Revolution. He led the team with 16 goals, more than double that of any other player, while adding three assists. Twellman has racked up 29 caps for the National Team which is the third most of the players invited behind Landon Donovan (96) and Eddie Johnson (31). In 2007, he made 10 appearances for the United States.

Stephen King, Robbie Rogers, and Chris Seitz are the three Terps invited to the U-23 National Team camp by head coach Peter Nowak. The camp is part of the team's preparation for the final round of the 2008 CONCACAF Men's Under-23 Championship in March. The two-week training camp will be held from January 6-20 at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida.

King, who graduated in December from Maryland, will go down as one the all-time great Terps. He started all 93 games that Maryland played in his four years. He ranks second in career assists with 33 and his 93 career points is sixth. As a senior, he dished out 13 assists which was one away from the school record. King was a two-time All-ACC member, Hermann Trophy semifinalist, and All-Region honoree and was an All-American this past season.

Rogers and Seitz both have experience with the U-23 team as both played for the team in its December tour of China. Seitz was the starting keeper in both matches, earning a shutout in the first game while Rogers scored a goal for the United States in the second.

Rogers appeared in 10 games with six starts in 2007 for the Columbus Crew. He totaled three goals and an assist in those matches. It was his first season in MLS after spending six months in the Dutch first division with SC Heerenveen.

Seitz, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, started three games in goal for Real Salt Lake last season. He made a total of six saves in those matches, earning a draw against the New York Red Bulls on May 5. Seitz was an All-American for the Terps in 2006 and led Maryland to the national championship as a freshman in 2005.
