Terps Women's Soccer Hosts No. 11 Florida State Thursday Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapin women's soccer welcomes a pair of Sunshine State foes to Ludwig Field as it kicks off its ACC home schedule. The No. 11 Florida State Seminoles visit College Park on Thursday, Oct. 2, for a 7 p.m. match. The Terps will then host the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.

Event Multimedia
• Fans will be able to watch the Florida State game live on the internet by logging on to www.accselect.com. Single-game passes are $5.95, while access to all content is available for $12.95 a month or $99.95 a year. Fans can also follow the games on GameTracker, which is available on UMTerps.com.

Scouting The Seminoles
• Florida State, ranked 11th in the country in the latest NSCAA/adidas coaches' poll, is 7-2-1 (1-1-0 ACC) on the season after going 1-1 this past weekend (losing to #13 Virginia 1-0, beating Va. Tech 3-1).

• Offensively, FSU is led by forwards Tiffany McCarty (6-3=15) and Sanna Talonen (6-2=14). Defensively, Florida State has allowed only six goals in 10 games. Junior goalkeeper Kate Milstead has started all 10 matches, making 34 saves with a 0.77 GAA and two shutouts.

• Head Coach Mark Krikorian is in his fourth season at the helm of the FSU program and has compiled a 63-16-9 (.767) record as a Seminole. Overall, he has a head coaching record of 231-65-15 (.767) in 15 seasons.

Scouting The Hurricanes
• Miami is 7-3-2 (0-1-1 ACC) on the season,and is coming off a 2-0 overtime loss to No. 13 Virginia last Sunday. Before arriving in College Park, Miami will play at No. 14 Boston College on Oct. 2.

• Offensively, freshman midfielder Brittney Steinbruch leads the Canes with 16 points on eight goals. Defensively, Miami's freshman goalkeeper Vikki Alonzo has made a league-leading 51 saves on the season and has a 0.64 GAA.

• Head Coach Tricia Taliafero, a 1995 graduate of Maryland, is in her seventh season at the helm of the Miami program, compiling a record of 53-61-6 (.467). Overall she has a career record as a head coach of 91-84-14 (.519) in 10 seasons.

Already A Career Year
• For Maryland senior forward Kaila Sciascia, the 2008 season (which is just eight games old) has already been a career year. The native of East Northport, N.Y., has already set season bests for goals (5) and points (11) and tied her season-high of one assist.

Record-Setting Day
• Several records fell or were tied during Maryland's 10-0 romp over Mount St. Mary's on Sept. 21.

Youth Movement
• In Maryland's season opening 5-0 win over George Mason, a total of 19 Terps saw the field. Of those 19, 12 were either freshmen or sophomores. Six of the Terps' starting 11 were either freshmen (2) or sophomores (4).

• Through the first 10 games of 2008 here's a breakdown of games played and started by class (110 possible starts):

Playing Overtime
• The 0-0 tie with Eastern Kentucky last season marked the third-straight home opener that has ended in a scoreless tie. In 2005 and 2006 the Terps played to a 0-0 draw against Towson.

• During the three-plus seasons under Coach Pensky, Maryland has played 20 overtime games (33% of its total games [60]) with a record of 2-7-12 in those games.

• The Terps played eight overtime matches last season tying the program record for overtime games in a season. Maryland was 1-4-3 in OT a year ago. The 2004 team also played in eight overtime contests, going 2-2-4.

At Ludwig Field
• Since its opening in 1995, Ludwig Field has proved to be a tremendous home-field advantage for the Terps women's soccer team. All-time Maryland is 88-41-15 (.663) at Ludwig Field.

• Through the seasons, the Terps have had a knack for shutting teams out at Ludwig Field. Maryland has won 61 of its 88 victories (69.3%) at Ludwig Field via shutout. Add in the nine 0-0 ties the Terps have had at Ludwig Field and it totals 70 times that Maryland has shutout its opponent in 144 games (48.6%).
