COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
With only two regular-season home games remaining, the No. 6 Maryland men's soccer team welcomes Evansville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Ludwig Field.
Maryland, who heads into Friday night's non-conference contest with a 10-3-0 record, is fresh off a thrilling, overtime win against Lehigh, 2-1, on Tuesday night in College Park. For the second-straight home game, Casey Townsend put the game-winner in the back of the net for the Terps. The freshman has been critical for the Terps all year long, leading the squad in goals (8) and points (18). Jeremy Hall assisted on both scores and has also been hot as of late. The junior midfielder is the reigning ACC Player of the Week and has scored seven goals this season, including a pair of multi-goal games in ACC play against Clemson and Virginia Tech. Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski is one-win shy of 250 for his career.
Evansville enters the game with what could be considered a deceiving 7-5-1 record. The Aces have battled some of the best in college soccer with games versus No. 14 UC Santa Barbara, No. 16 Indiana and No. 2 Creighton. Evansville came dangerously close to defeating Creighton last Saturday, falling by only a goal, 3-2, on the road. The Aces are led by Mike Luttrull, who boasts team-highs in goals (8) and points (20). Evansville, who is 1-3-1 in its last five outings, relies on keeper Alec Dufty between the pipes. Dufty has six wins, five of which were shutouts, this season.
Friday night's meeting is the first between the two programs.
Tickets for the game are $8 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors. Students who present a valid student ID gain free admission to Ludwig Field.
