
Terps Women's Soccer Travels To No. 13 Boston College and NC State This Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapin women's soccer finishes its three-game ACC road trip this week. The Terps start in Chestnut Hill, Mass., with a Thursday evening match at No. 13 Boston College. From there, Maryland heads south for a match at NC State on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Scouting the Eagles
Boston College is 9-3-2 overall this season a 3-2-1 conference mark coming into Thursday's game. In their last outing, the Eagles defeated NC State, 1-0, to snap a two-match losing skid.
Boston College is led on offense by forward Brooke Kowlton, who leads the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Defensively, freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni has started all 14 games and has a 0.82 GAA and six shutouts.
Head Coach Alison Kulik is in her 12th season at the helm of the BC program and has compiled a 147-75-23 (.647) record. Overall, Kulik has been a head coach for 13 seasons and is 152-83-26 (.632) overall.
Scouting the WolfPack
NC State is 8-8-0 (0-6-0 ACC) on the season after dropping its last six matches by a combined score of 21-0. The Pack lost at No. 2 North Carolina 5-0 last Friday. NC State plays at No. 19 Wake Forest on Thursday before hosting the Terps on Sunday.
The Wolfpack is led by forward Lindsay Vera with 21 points on eight goals and five assist. Defensively, State splits time in goal between Kim Kern and Rachel Barnette, with each making eight starts.
Head Coach Laura Kerrigan is in her 12th season at the helm of the NC State program and has compiled a 87-103-16 (.466) overall record.
Youth Movement
In Maryland's season opening 5-0 win over George Mason, a total of 19 Terps saw the field. Of those 19, 12 were either freshmen or sophomores. Six of the Terps' starting 11 were either freshmen (2) or sophomores (4).
Through 15 games in 2008 here's a breakdown of games played and started by class (165 possible starts):

Already A Career Year
For Maryland senior forward Kaila Sciascia, the 2008 season has already been a career year. The native of East Northport, N.Y., has already set season bests for goals (6) and points (13) and tied her season-high of one assist.
Record-Setting Day
Several records fell or were tied during Maryland's 10-0 romp over Mount St. Mary's on Sept. 21.

Playing Overtime
The 0-0 tie with Eastern Kentucky last season marked the third-straight home opener that has ended in a scoreless tie. In 2005 and 2006 the Terps played to a 0-0 draw against Towson.
During the three-plus seasons under Coach Pensky, Maryland has played 23 overtime games (33% of its total games [70]) with a record of 2-9-12 in those games.
The Terps played eight overtime matches last season tying the program record for overtime games in a season. Maryland was 1-4-3 in OT a year ago. The 2004 team also played in eight overtime contests, going 2-2-4.
At Ludwig Field
Since its opening in 1995, Ludwig Field has proved to be a tremendous home-field advantage for the Terps women's soccer team. All-time Maryland is 89-44-15 (.652) at Ludwig Field.
Through the seasons, the Terps have had a knack for shutting teams out at Ludwig Field. Maryland has won 62 of its 89 victories (69.7%) at Ludwig Field via shutout. Add in the nine 0-0 ties the Terps have had at Ludwig Field and it totals 71 times that Maryland has shutout its opponent in 148 games (48.0%).

WMUC Radio: Maryland's student radio station WMUC (88.1 FM) will broadcast most home Maryland women's soccer games in 2008 and select road games.
