RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 6 Terps men's soccer team returns to ACC action on Saturday night with a match against NC State at 7 p.m. at the NC State Soccer Stadium.
Maryland (12-3-0) boasts a five-game winning streak and have had an offensive awakening as of late, boasting 13 goals in the last five outings, much in part to the attacking play of freshman Casey Townsend and junior Jeremy Hall. The duo has teamed up for 20 goals, including ten during the current winning streak. After Hall was tabbed ACC Player of the Week last Tuesday, Townsend earned the honor this week in addition to being named College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week.
Freshman keeper Zac MacMath is on a tear, tallying eight consecutive wins since losing his first outing back in late August. The freshman is third in the ACC in goals against average (0.54), shutouts per game (0.50) and save percentage (.821).
The Wolfpack (5-7-1) have been hot late as well, winning four of its last five games with its only loss coming at the hands of No. 1 Wake Forest. NC State is paced by the junior tandem of Ronnie Bouemboue and Alan Sanchez. Bouemboue does the majority of the scoring for the Wolfpack, tallying a team-high seven goals. Sanchez leads the team in points (17) and assists (5).
Saturday's contest is the 68th meeting between the Maryland and NC State men's soccer programs. The Terps lead the all-time series, 42-20-5, including a 5-0 rout of the Wolfpack last year at Ludwig Field. Rodney Wallace scored two goals to lead Maryland as the Terps scored four goals in the second half.
