  • ITHACA, N.Y. - The University of Maryland wrestling team placed seventh at the Body Bar Invitational on the campus of Cornell University Saturday, finishing with 54.5 points.

Four Terrapins placed in the event, including third-place finishes from No. 10 Steven Bell at 133 pounds and Patrick Gilmore at heavyweight. Corey Peltier finished fourth at 174 and Brian Letters finished fifth at 165.

"I am glad we had four guys place, but we could have had more and could have had higher places," Maryland head coach Kerry McCoy said. "Pat Gilmore did a great job and Steve Bell lost a tough match in the semis, but finished strong. Corey Peltier and Brian Letters looked good, as well. We have some areas to work on, but it's still early and we have a lot of time to get better. I am looking forward to getting back to work this week and preparing for this coming weekend's competition."

Boise State won the championship with 125 points. Kent State finished second, tallying 115 points and host Cornell came in third with 91.5 points.

Bell went 3-1 on the day, opening with a pin of Ithaca's Chad Condidirio in 1:35. However, Bell lost a 7-4 decision in the semifinals to No. 9 Andrew Hochstrasser of Boise State, before clinching third with a 13-5 victory over Bloomsburg's Jason Guffy.

Gilmore also won three of four matches, with his only defeat coming at the hands of No. 9 Jermail Porter of Kent State, 13-4. Gilmore took third with a 6-1 decision over Sam Zylstra of Boise State.

Letters won four of five matches and closed the day with back-to-back decisions against University of Buffalo wrestlers Cory Lempka and Ryan Black, respectively.

Other Maryland competitors included Brendan Byrne, Steve Fehnel, Mookie Golden, Ryan Gray, Kyle John, Patrick Klenkel, Dex Lederer, Chris Lloyd, Matt MacLean, Mike McGill, Lou Ruland, Will Sharbaugh and Tommy Sitar.

The Terps return to dual competition next Saturday at the Northeast Duals in Guilderland, N.Y. Maryland will face a pair of top-five teams in No. 1 Iowa and No. 5 Missouri, as well as Drexel.
