CANCUN, Mexico - Brenda Frese earned her 150th win at the University of Maryland and the Terrapins hit a season-high nine three-pointers as Maryland defeated Montana, 71-59 Thursday on the second day of the Cancun Caribbean Challenge. Kristi Toliver was one of four Terps scoring in double figures, leading the team with 13 points. She also added three assists without a turnover.

Sophomore Marah Strickland and senior Marissa Coleman put in 11 each, while junior Demauria Liles added ten.

The Terps (5-1) never trailed in the game, leading by double digits for much of the second half.

Maryland was aided by strong bench play from Anjalé Barrett and Drey Mingo. Barrett, who saw significant minutes while Toliver was sidelined by foul trouble early in the second half, connected on 2-of-2 shooting from beyond the arc for a personal-best six points. Mingo, who spelled freshman Lynetta Kizer throughout the contest, tied a season-high with nine points.

"It's really nice to have that presence," Frese said of her bench play. "Our players aren't pacing themselves on the offensive and defensive ends. The talent that we do have with Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood and Anjalé coming off the bench can give us great minutes."

The Lady Griz found themselves the victims of Maryland's best outside shooting game of the season. The Terps connected on nine-of-17 from beyond the arc, hitting two more trifectas than they had in any previous contest this season. Kristi Toliver and Marah Strickland each hit three, while Barrett added two and Mingo one.

The only Terp to hit in double figures in every game thus far this season, Marissa Coleman added seven assists to her 11 points against Montana. Coleman also was good for several put-backs, pulling down eight boards to help the Terps outrebound Montana, 41-29.

Despite the milestone victory, Frese did not see a reason to let up.

"We've got a lot of things to work on," Frese pointed out. "The challenge is that we've got to improve quickly to go out and play a talented Illinois team tomorrow."

Maryland will face Illinois tomorrow evening in their final game of the Cancun Caribbean Challenge. The Terps and Illini will tip off at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time at the Moon Palace Resort.
