Berger Leads Terps at Day One of Virginia Tech Challenge

Blacksburg, Va. - Dominic Berger posted a season-best time in the 60-Meter Hurdles and finished first to lead University of Maryland performances during the first day of competition at the Virginia Tech Challenge yesterday.

Berger had a time of 7.86, which beat his previous season-best time by .04. He has already qualified for the IC4A Championships in the event and met the NCAA Provisional mark.

On the women's side, the Terrapin throwers all had strong days, with five placing in the top-eleven spots. Jillian Anwah recorded a third-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 58-08.00. She was followed by teammate Aysha Gregory, who placed seventh with a season-best and ECAC-qualifying throw of 54-01.7. Katelyn Poss placed ninth with a throw of 49-09.25 and Kristen Batts finished 11th posting a mark of 48-02.50.

In the 600 meters, Kelly Pry placed third with a time of 1:36.24 and Bianca Strachan finished ninth, running a 1:37.98.

The Terps will conclude competition in the Virginia Tech Challenge today, before heading to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the ACC Championships next weekend.
