Men's Soccer Spring Update

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team took its first ever spring trip to Florida in early March and it was a successful one as the Terrapins went 2-0-1 with wins against the United States U-17 National Team and Connecticut. The Terps opened the trip with a scoreless draw against Creighton. Maryland will play three more matches in April to close out the spring season.
Maryland and Creighton battled for 90 minutes at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., on March 6 but neither team found the back of the net. The Blue Jays finished the 2007 season 12-3-5, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and finished ranked No. 9 in the nation.
On the next day, the Terps played the U-17 National Team and came out on top 2-0 with goals from sophomores Jeremy Hall and Doug Rodkey. Rodkey and freshman Rodney Wallace assisted on Hall's goal in the eighth minute and Rodkey scored his goal in the 77th.
The Terps ended their trip with a match against UConn on March 9. Hall scored two goals and junior Graham Zusi added the third in a 3-2 win. Hall converted on a penalty kick after sophomore Omar Gonzalez was pulled down in the box on a corner.
Freshman Billy Cortes assisted on Hall's second tally and Zusi notched his goal on a free kick.
UConn finished 2007 with a 20-3-1 mark but lost to Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies were the No. 5 team in the nation in the final NSCAA/adidas poll.
Maryland will take on Crystal Palace FC of the United Soccer League second division at Ludwig Field on April 10 at 7:00 p.m. The Terps will then travel to St. John's for a game at 2:00 p.m. on April 19 before closing the spring season with a game to be determined on April 26 or 27.
