Maryland Water Polo Falls to Bucknell in Overtime

March 31, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Maryland women's water polo team lost in a heartbreaker at conference-rival Bucknell Sunday, 7-6, in overtime.

The Terps (18-9) fell just 57 seconds short of what would have been their second win in the CWPA South this season.

Maryland was led by two goals from Rachel Jordan, but the Terps missed 21 shots to go along with their six goals, sealing their fate.

"We just couldn't finish on our offensive opportunities, and we had plenty of good ones," Coach Carl Salyer said.

Bucknell's Shana Palencia put the winning goal through the posts with just under a minute left in the second overtime.

The Bison (22-4) are riding an eight-game winning streak, dating back to March 15. With Sunday's win, Bucknell has proven to be the team to beat in the CWPA South, notching wins over all three other conference teams over the past week.

Maryland will look to rebound Saturday when the team travels to Princeton to take on the nationally-ranked Tigers and the Brown Bears.
