COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's water polo team will take on Princeton at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium in the opening round of the CWPA Southern Division Championship.
The Terps (20-13, 3-3) enter as the third seed in the tournament and split the season series with the second-seeded Tigers (16-10, 4-2) after beating them, 12-9, Saturday in College Park.
Maryland looks to repeat last year's performance, when it handled Bucknell in the first round and upset a then nationally-ranked Princeton club on a last-second goal in the finals.
The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday. The other semifinal game pits top seed Bucknell vs. fourth-seeded George Washington. There will also be a consolation game at 4:30 p.m.
The Terrapins have been led by the outstanding play of their juniors this season.
Captain Blaise Stanicic set new Maryland single-season records, leading the team with 73 points and 41 assists. Rachel Jordan and Elizabeth Hopkins led the team in goals with 54 and 51, respectively, putting Jordan ahead of Hopkins by one goal at the top of the team's career scoring list with 146.
Goalie Ashleigh Jobson set a new team record with 240 blocks during the regular season, topping Marissa Corwin's 196 blocks in 2005.
The Terrapins also showed an improvement in efficiency, with six players topping the previous Maryland record for shooting percentage in a season.
