LEWISBURG, Pa. -
The Maryland women's water polo team beat George Washington, 10-3, and lost to Princeton, 10-4, to finish third in the CWPA Southern Division Championship at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium Saturday.
The Terps (21-14, 3-3) were led by three goals from Rachel Jordan and two by Casey Mills against the Colonials (7-20, 0-6) in the consolation game.
Senior goalie Anna Gossett saw action in both games, including a 14-block performance against George Washington.
The Terps will find out in the next few days if they qualified for an at-large bid in the Eastern Championship. The tournament takes place April 25-27 at the University of Michigan. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
Against Princeton (17-10, 4-2) the Terps were led by three goals from junior captain Blaise Stanicic and a goal from Jordan, but otherwise could not get the ball in the net.
"We played hard but just couldn't find the back of the cage," Coach Carl Salyer said. "Princeton played hard and was ready to play."
The Terrapins trailed the entire game and could not take advantage of a 10-3 lead in ejections going into the fourth quarter.
Princeton faces No. 20 Bucknell (25-7, 5-1) Saturday night in the championship game. The teams split the season series, and both have earned automatic berths in the Eastern Championship.
