CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
For the second time in the last five seasons Maryland head coach Dave Cottle was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year as selected by a vote of the league's four coaches.
The All-ACC teams were also announced at the annual awards banquet with senior defender Joe Cinosky and redshirt junior midfielder Jeff Reynolds earning spots on the squad for the Terrapins.
Cottle, who earns ACC Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career, is in his seventh season at Maryland and led the Terrapins to a 2-1 conference record and a number two seed in the ACC Tournament that begins Friday at Virginia's Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va. Cottle previously won the award in 2004 and is the only coach in the conference to win the award twice in the past five seasons.
Maryland is the only team in the conference to have won at least one of the three individual awards in each of the past three seasons. (Joe Walters - 2006 Player of the Year, Brian Phipps - 2007 Freshman of the Year, Dave Cottle - 2008 Coach of the Year).
Cinosky, who was named a preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse, has been the Terps' best player throughout the 2008 season, according to Cottle. The Boonton Township, N.J., native leads Maryland with 36 groundballs and 24 caused turnovers. During the season he has set career-highs in groundballs on three occasions and caused turnovers twice.
Reynolds earns All-ACC honors after missing nearly all of 2007 due to a torn ACL. Since returning from the injury, Reynolds, who played primarily as a defensive midfielder during his first two seasons, has led all Maryland midfielders with 15 goals, including hat tricks against North Carolina and Virginia. The Bel Air, Md., native is also fourth on the team with 30 groundballs.
Duke's Matt Danowski garnered ACC Player of the Year accolades for the third time in his career, while Duke's Mike Manley was honored as the ACC Freshman of the Year.
