COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Three members of the University of Maryland women's water polo team were named to the 2008 All-CWPA Southern Division team.
Juniors Elizabeth Hopkins and Blaise Stanicic earned spots on the first team, while junior center Rachel Jordan was placed on the second team.
Hopkins was second on the Terrapins (22-16) in goals scored (56) this season from her utility position. Stanicic, an attacker, was fifth on the team with 39 goals scored.
Jordan was the leading scorer (65 goals) for the Terps who set a school record for victories this year en route to a fourth-place finish in last weekend's Eastern Championship. It marked Maryland's highest-ever tournament in the five-year history of the program.
Hopkins also earned a spot on the All-Eastern tournament second team.
In other news, Maryland Head Coach Carl Salyer announced that Carly Hoshko signed a National Letter of Intent earlier this month to play for the Terps next season.
Hoshko, a native of Coronado, Calif., comes from one of the top high school programs in the nation.
As a senior, she helped lead Coronado High School to the California Interscholastic Federation-San Diego Section Division II championship. Coronado was the runner-up each of Hoshko's three previous seasons.
Hoshko, who played at the prep level with Hopkins and Jordan, was also an honorable mention All-America selection at the 2005 Junior Olympics (16-and-under).
Hoshko is also a standout in the classroom, having been tapped an all-academic first team choice in San Diego this past season.
Salyer is looking forward to her arrival in College Park along with five other recruits - Christine Goetsch, Elina Goldenberg, Alexandra Gurnee, Shelby Reyes and Callan Rowe - who all signed in November.
"Carly gets up and down the pool," Salyer said. "She is going to help us in our counterattack. She can play center defender and center, and is a good outside shooter.
"Carly is an excellent all-around player and we're excited about adding her to next season's roster."
