PALM HARBOR, Fla. - The University of Maryland's Crystal Langhorne and Laura Harper were drafted in the first round of the WNBA Draft on Wednesday afternoon at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. Langhorne will remain close to campus, as she was the No. 6 pick by the Washington Mystics. Harper was taken 10th overall by the Sacramento Monarchs. The two are the highest-ever Terrapins picked in the draft and the only ones selected in the first round.

Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) came to College Park as the top-rated post player in the nation as a high school senior. She ends her collegiate career as one of the best players in NCAA history. Maryland's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, she is one of just 27 players in NCAA history to score 2,200 points and grab 1,200 rebounds. She is the first-ever player to lead the nation in field goal shooting three times, making 65.2 percent of her attempts during her career, which ranks fourth in NCAA history.

Langhorne is a three-time Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-American and was twice selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America squad. Maryland's only four-time all-conference pick, she was voted the 2008 ACC Player of the Year. Langhorne averaged team-highs of 17.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, both ranking third in the ACC.

Laura Harper (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) scored her 1,000th point this season and broke the school record for career blocks (198). A third-team All-ACC selection and the 2006 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, she was named an Honorable Mention All-American after a career season where she averaged 14.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in 2007-08. Harper has scored 1,407 points, ranking 14th all-time at Maryland. Her 873 boards rank fourth-all-time.

Harper and Langhorne have helped Maryland win 117 games and post an 89.2 winning percentage, both school records. During their careers, the Terps have advanced to the NCAA Tournament all four seasons, post four-straight 20-win seasons and claim the 2006 National Championship crown.

Langhorne and Harper are the second and third Terrapins under head coach Brenda Frese to be drafted by WNBA teams. Former Terrapin Shay Doron was the first player at Maryland under Frese to be selected. She was picked in the second round and 16th pick overall by the New York Liberty.

The Monarchs open the preseason against Seattle on Friday, May 2, before taking on the Mystics in their preseason opener on Monday, May 5 in Tampa, Fla.
