BALTIMORE, Md. -
Maryland attackman Grant Catalino will participate with the U.S. Men's U-19 lacrosse team during its first two exhibition games, US Lacrosse announced today.
Catalino, along with Kory Kelly of Rutgers and Andrew Feinberg of Brown, will be competing as alternates to fill the final roster spot on the squad. All three players participated in the tryouts for the U.S. team last summer.
Catalino was the leading scorer for Maryland's NCAA tournament team this season. The 6-foot-5 attackman had 29 goals and 13 assists for 42 points. Catalino had a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists in a 16-10 win over Yale and he also had a four-goal game in the Terps' season-opening 11-6 win over Georgetown. He was a US Lacrosse High School All-American while playing at Webster Schroeder (N.Y.) High School.
Catalino will join fellow Terps Tony Mendes, Max Schmidt and Ryan Young on the U.S. team, which opens its exhibition schedule on Sunday, June 8 at Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) High School. The team will also play exhibitions at Bridgewater (N.J.) High School on June 14, at USTC in Downingtown, Pa., on June 21, at Georgetown (Md.) Prep on June 22 and at Mercer Island (Wash.) High School on June 29.
The 2008 International Lacrosse Federation U-19 World Championship will be held from July 3-12 in British Columbia, Canada. The U.S. has won each of the five previous ILF U-19 World Championships.
