TIANJIN, China -
Former Maryland standouts Maurice Edu and Robbie Rogers helped the U.S. men's soccer team hold the Netherlands to four shots on goal and force a 2-2 tie on Sunday at the Tianjin Olympic Sports Center Stadium.
The Netherlands struck first in the match after a Ryan Babel header rebounded off U.S. goalkeeper Brad Guznan back to Babel for a high shot to the back of the net in the 16th minute.
After several scoring chances for both squads, the U.S. finally got on the board in the 64th minute after Sacha Klijestan scored off a Freddy Adu assist. Jozy Altidore scored eight minutes later after a scramble in front of the Dutch goal to give U.S. the lead.
The Netherlands evened the score after Gerald Sibon's low free kick fired under the U.S. wall during the third of three minutes of added time from 21 yards out to tie the game.
Rogers and Edu both started for the U.S., which plays Nigeria on Wednesday. The U.S. still sits atop the Group B standings and will move on to the quarterfinals with a win, tie or a Netherlands' loss to Japan.
The U.S. vs. Nigeria match will be shown live at 5 p.m. ET on USA Network, the Olympic Soccer Channel and ussoccer.com's MatchTracker.
