The U.S. men's soccer team, including former Maryland standouts Maurice Edu, Robbie Rogers, and Chris Seitz, were eliminated from the 2008 Olympic Games by Nigeria, 2-1, at the Beijing Workers' Stadium on Wednesday.
The U.S. played a man down for 87 minutes after Michael Orozco received a red card during the third minute of play. Nigeria led the entire contest, scoring twice before the U.S.'s Sacha Kljestan nailed a penalty kick in the 88th minute.
The loss leaves the U.S. at 1-1-1 and third place in Group B as Nigeria and the Netherlands advance to the quarterfinals.
