LOS ANGELES - After a thrilling overtime victory on Friday night against No. 14 UCLA at The Home Depot Center, No. 8 Maryland men's soccer will face its second PAC-10 opponent of the weekend with a game against California at 6 p.m. (ET) on Sunday in Los Angeles.
The Terps dropped UCLA, 2-1, in the season opener on Friday after sophomore Rodney Wallace scored the game-winner seven minutes into the first overtime period. Fellow sophomore Sean Flatley netted the tying score with only 40 seconds remaining in regulation.
California also started the season with a victory, defeating UC-Riverside, 3-1, on Friday afternoon. Andrew Wiedeman scored two goals and Hector Jimenez had two assists to lead the Bears' attack. All three goals for Cal came within the first 12 minutes of the game.
The Bears, who went 12-6-2 in 2007 and fell in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, return 19 letterwinners from last year's squad including eight starters.
Sunday's meeting, which will be played at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA, is the first between the Cal and Maryland men's soccer programs.
