
Letts Wins Bronze at FILA World Championships

ISTANBUL, Turkey - University of Maryland wrestler Mike Letts earned the bronze medal at the FILA World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, posting a 4-1 record in the 185-pound (84 kilogram) weight class of the freestyle division.
Letts reached the semifinals with three straight victories by scores of 9-4, 8-3 and 4-0. Letts was defeated in the semifinals, 5-0, by eventual silver medalist Beka Tchelidze.
Letts rebounded in the bronze-medal match, defeating Aslanbek Alborov by a score 2-1.
The United States finished fourth in the event with 34 points while Russia took first place.
Letts earned his way to Turkey by winning the 174-pound freestyle division at the FILA Junior Nationals in April.
Letts won the ACC Championship at 174 pounds for the second straight season this year, finishing with a 22-6 record. Letts was ranked in the top 10 nationally throughout the season, ranking as highly as seventh.
