No. 8 Maryland v. No. 9 Boston College Showdown Set for Friday Night

Sept. 11, 2008

GAME NOTES | ACC Select | WMUC

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After an offensive eruption last weekend resulted in a pair of wins, the No. 9 Maryland men's soccer team faces its first ACC opponent on Friday, when it plays host to No. 9 Boston College at Ludwig Field. Game time for the highly-anticipated matchup between the Terps and the Eagles is slated for 8 p.m.

Maryland, which mustered a total of seven goals against Hartford and Davidson, is statistically led by freshman Casey Townsend, sophomore Rodney Wallace and junior Jeremy Hall. Townsend, Wallace and Hall have all scored a pair of goals for the Terps this season while freshman Matt Kassel and senior Graham Zusi pace Maryland in assists with three. Will Swaim has two wins at goalkeeper, including a shutout against Hartford last Friday.

Maryland has topped the only ranked opponent they have seen this season, defeating No. 14 UCLA on the road, 2-1, in overtime to kick off the 2008 campaign. No. 6 California, which was unranked heading into the season, is responsible for the lone win over Maryland.

The Eagles, last year's ACC regular season and tournament champion, head into Friday's contest with a 2-1-1 record. BC most recently tied St. John's, 1-1, on Sunday at the adidas-Brown Classic while Providence defeated the Eagles back on Sept. 1, 1-0, for the Eagles' only loss. Every outcome for Boston College this season has been determined by one goal or less. Four different Eagles have scored for BC in 2008. Chris Brown has played every minute at goal, tallying six saves while surrendering three goals.

The series between the Eagles and the Terps is knotted at 2-2, with Boston College winning the last meeting in 2007 in Chestnut Hill, Mass., 2-0.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and youth. Students can gain free admittance with a valid student ID. A live broadcast of the game will be available at www.wmucsports.com. ACC Select will also be broadcasting the game and can be accessed at www.ACCSelect.com.
