COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
After a riveting night of soccer last Friday, No. 2 Maryland will look for its fifth consecutive win on Tuesday night when the Terps host American at 7:30 p.m. Ludwig Field.
Maryland, which enters the week 5-1-0 and 2-0 in ACC play, picked up a big win last Friday when it downed No. 25 Duke, 1-0, in front over 6,000 fans at Ludwig. Omar Gonzalez scored in the fifth minute of play off a corner kick from Matt Kassel to give Maryland the early lead. Gritty defensive work helped hold the Blue Devils to only one shot on goal and secured the win for the Terps. The win was also a milestone for head coach Sasho Cirovski, who eclipsed long-time coach Doyle Royal as the all-time leader in coaching victories in program history with 218.
American enters Tuesday night's contest with a 3-4-1 record. The Eagles fell to George Washington, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. AU is paced by Daniel Shannon who leads the squad in goals (3) and points (6). Matt Makowski has seen the majority of minutes in goal. He is the keeper of record in all eight games for the Eagles this season.
This is the 32nd meeting between the two programs. Maryland leads the all-time series, 17-9-5 and narrowly won the last outing, 2-1, in the Maryland/adidas Classic in College Park on Sept. 7, 2003.
Admission to the game is $8 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors. Students get into Ludwig Field free with a valid student ID.
