Terps Women's Soccer Opens ACC Schedule On The Road At 14th-Ranked Wake Forest

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapin women's soccer team begins its ACC schedule on the road with a pair of games in North Carolina this week. The Terps first travel to Winston Salem for a Thursday-night meeting at No. 14 Wake Forest. From there, Maryland heads east to Chapel Hill to take on No. 3 North Carolina on Sunday.

Scouting The Demon Deacons
• The 14th-ranked Demon Deacons are 7-1-0 and are opening their ACC slate as well. Wake Forest has won its past three matches, all by 3-0 finals.

• Offensively, Wake is led by junior forward Jill Hutchinson (5G, 3A=13P). Defensively, Wake has allowed only three goals in eight games. The goalkeeping duo of junior Laura Morse and sophomore Amanda Barasha have combined for a 0.37 GAA and three shutouts on the season.

Scouting The Tar Heels
• The third-ranked Tar Heels are 7-1-1 and open their ACC schedule on Thursday at Clemson. Since dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 1 Notre Dame on Sept. 5, Carolina has gone 4-0-1 and has outscored its opposition by a 20-1 margin in the five matches.

• Offensively, Carolina is led by junior forward Casey Nogueira, who leads the team with six goals. Junior forward Nikki Washington leads the team in points with 15 on four goals and seven assists. Defensively, Carolina has allowed only five goals in nine matches. Senior Anna Rodenbough and junior Ashlyn Harris have split time in net for the Tar Heels. As a team, UNC has a goals against average of 0.54.

Already A Career Year
• For Maryland senior forward Kaila Sciascia, the 2008 season (which is just eight games old) has already been a career year. The native of East Northport, N.Y., has already set season bests for goals (5) and points (11) and tied her season-high of one assist.

Record-Setting Day
• Several records fell or were tied during Maryland's 10-0 romp over Mount St. Mary's on Sept. 21.

Youth Movement
• In Maryland's season opening 5-0 win over George Mason, a total of 19 Terps saw the field. Of those 19, 12 were either freshmen or sophomores. Six of the Terps' starting 11 were either freshmen (2) or sophomores (4).

• Through the first eight games of 2008 here's a breakdown of games played and started by class (88 possible starts):

Playing Overtime
• The 0-0 tie with Eastern Kentucky last season marked the third-straight home opener that has ended in a scoreless tie. In 2005 and 2006 the Terps played to a 0-0 draw against Towson.

• During the three-plus seasons under Coach Pensky, Maryland has played 20 overtime games (33% of its total games [60]) with a record of 2-7-12 in those games.

• The Terps played eight overtime matches last season tying the program record for overtime games in a season. Maryland was 1-4-3 in OT a year ago. The 2004 team also played in eight overtime contests, going 2-2-4.

At Ludwig Field
• Since its opening in 1995, Ludwig Field has proved to be a tremendous home-field advantage for the Terps women's soccer team. All-time Maryland is 88-41-15 (.663) at Ludwig Field.

• Through the seasons, the Terps have had a knack for shutting teams out at Ludwig Field. Maryland has won 61 of its 88 victories (69.3%) at Ludwig Field via shutout. Add in the nine 0-0 ties the Terps have had at Ludwig Field and it totals 70 times that Maryland has shutout its opponent in 144 games (48.6%).
