After going 1-1 during a West Coast trip last weekend, the No. 9 Maryland men's soccer team heads home this weekend to face Hartford on Friday and Davidson on Sunday at Ludwig Field.
Maryland, which slipped a notch in the NSCAA/addidas poll this week, defeated then-No. 14 UCLA, 2-1, in dramatic fashion on Friday night in front a national television audience on the Fox Soccer Channel. Sophomore Sean Flatley tied up the game with only 40 seconds remaining to send it into overtime where Rodney Wallace provided the game-winner. The Terps fell against now-No.11 California on Sunday, 1-0.
Hartford is 1-0 heading into Friday's contest after defeating Marist, 4-0, last weekend. Carlos Villa netted a pair of goals for the Hawks while keeper Nenad Cudic registered the shutout. The Hawks, a member of the America East Conference, went 7-4-6 in 2007.
Davidson split a pair of home contests last weekend, falling to Charlotte, 5-1, on Friday night before getting their first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout over Marshall on Sunday. Seven different players have tallied a point for the Wildcats, who hail from Southern Conference. Davidson went 4-14-1 in 2007 and returns 19 letterwinners, seven of which are starters, from that squad.
It is the first meeting between Maryland and both schools.
The Hartford game is part of doubleheader with the women's soccer team and kicks off at 8 p.m. The women's contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Fans get double the soccer for one price as one admission is good for both games on Friday. The Davidson game on Sunday is slated for 7 p.m.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and youth. Students are free with a valid student ID.
