No. 12/16 Maryland Travels to Clemson

Jan. 14, 2009

CLEMSON, S.C. - After a tightly-contested 68-65 loss at Duke on Monday, the Maryland women's basketball team will look to rebound at Clemson on Thursday. The Terrapins and Tigers tip off at 7 p.m. in a game that will be aired on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network.

Maryland fought back into Monday's game despite being down 40-29 at halftime and outrebounded 56-39 for the game. The Terps climbed back into it thanks in large part to their three-point shooting. Senior Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood had three treys in the second half, accounting for all nine of her points. Redshirt freshman Anjalé Barrett added two long-distance jumpers for six of her 10 points.

Senior Marissa Coleman led the Terps with 14 points despite missing 6:30 in the second half with severe leg cramps which forced her to make a quick visit to the Cameron Indoor Stadium medical room. She returned with 2:19 to go and freed herself for a layup to pull Maryland within a bucket, but the Terps could not finish the comeback.

Freshman Lynetta Kizer had her team-leading fifth double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.

In Clemson, Maryland will face another team looking to get back on track in the Atlantic Coast Conference. After opening with a win at Miami, Clemson held a 65-64 lead at home over No. 2/2 North Carolina with just five minutes remaining. The Tar Heels went on a run, though, winning 83=74. In their last game, Clemson was dismantled at Florida State, 80-54.

Clemson is led by Lele Hardy, who is scoring 17.2 points a game and pulling down 8.9 rebounds. Sthefanie Thomas and Whitney Hood are each contributing 9.0 points a game as well.

Maryland and Clemson will go up against each other at 7 on Thursday evening. Fans can follow the action on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network, as well as ACC Select.
