Baltz Returns: Travis Baltz, who missed the last three games with an ankle injury, returned to assume the punting duties against Duke. Baltz punted five times for an average of 40.4 yards per punt, and put two kicks inside the opponents 20.
Turner Passes Esiason: With QB Chris Turner's 67-yard pass to Davin Meggett in the third quarter, he moved past Boomer Esiason for second all-time in Maryland career passing yards. Turner now has 6,307 passing yards in his career.
Porzel Makes First Start: Caleb Porzel became the third true freshman to start at running back in Ralph Friedgen's tenure. Cory Jackson (2006) and Davin Meggett (2008) were the others. Porzel rushed a team-high 15 times for 28 yards, and made three receptions for 24 yards.
Pooler Steps In: Starting in place of the injured Demetrius Hartsfield, linebacker Ben Pooler had a career game. He made a career and game-high 13 stops, and recorded a sack for the third straight game. He also totaled 3.0 TFLs and forced one fumble.
Going Deep: Maryland achieved its longest play of the season in the third quarter. Facing a third-and-18, Turner threw a dump pass to Davin Meggett, and Meggett weaved through the defense for a 67-yard score. It was the longest reception by a Maryland running back since Oct. 30, 2004 against Florida State (Josh Allen 72-yard TD pass from Joel Statham).
10th True Freshman Debuts: With DB Eric Franklin seeing action in the second quarter, 10 true freshmen have made their debuts for the Terrapins this season. Franklin joined LB Darin Drakeford, PK Nick Ferrara, OL Bennett Fulper, DL Zach Kerr, DL Isaiah Ross, LB Avery Murray, LB Ryan Donohue, RB Caleb Porzel, and DL Justin Anderson. It is the most true freshmen to play during Ralph Friedgen's tenure, with the previous high being eight in 2004.
Cannon Sets Career-High: Junior wide receiver Adrian Cannon set a career-high with six receptions against Duke, for a total of 66 yards. Cannon's previous high was five receptions, achieved against California (9/5) and Rutgers (9/26).
Defense Steps Up: Maryland allowed just 23 rushing yards by the Blue Devils. It was the lowest total rushing yards by an opponent since NC State recorded just 10 on Nov. 24, 2007. The Terps also tied a season-best with three takeaways (Clemson 10/3).
Injury Update: Antwine Perez, who was taken off the field on a stretcher after making a tackle in the first half, was in good condition following the game and was able to travel home with the team.
