COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The 21st-ranked University of Maryland women's basketball team will play New Hampshire at 7 p.m. Monday at Comcast Center for the Terrapins' second game in three days to start the 2009-10 season.
The Terps are looking to start the season 2-0 after winning their season opener, 88-39, Saturday evening against North Carolina Central. Sophomore Lynetta Kizer had a big game in the opener, setting a new career high with 23 points in only 21 minutes of play.
Maryland also received big production from its freshman class. Forward Tianna Hawkins flirted with a double-double on 15 points and eight rebounds. Diandra Tchatchouang added 11 points, Dara Taylor had nine points, six steals and five assists and Essence Townsend had a team-high nine rebounds and four blocks.
The New Hampshire Wildcats are also 1-0 on the young season, taking their season opener Friday at home against St. Joseph's. Denise Beliveau paced the Wildcats Friday with 21 points and nine rebounds.
The Terps and Wildcats have played only once in their respective histories, a 74-72 Maryland win in 1983.
