COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 20 University of Maryland women's basketball plays host to Old Dominion at 7 p.m. Thursday at Comcast Center, as the Terrapins will look to win their third straight game to open the season.
Maryland (2-0) leads the all-time series between the Terps and Lady Monarchs, 11-8, after defeating Old Dominion last season, 74-65, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va.
The Terrapins are coming off of a 63-43 win over New Hampshire Monday, the team's second game in three days.
Five players have already posted double-digit points at least once this season, three with repeat performances. Sophomore center Lynetta Kizer and freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang have each helped propel Maryland's offensive efforts, averaging 17 and 14 points per game, respectively.
The Terrapin newcomers continue to impress. Clinton, Md., native Tianna Hawkins is averaging a double-double (11 points/11.5 rebounds) while freshman guard Dara Taylor leads the team in assists with 10 and in steals with seven. Freshman Essence Townsend fronts the Terps' defense, tallying a team-high six blocks and 10 defensive rebounds thus far.
Old Dominion looks to bounce back after an 89-56 loss to No. 2 Stanford in the Lady Monarchs' season opener. Junior Jasmine Parker led Old Dominion in the team's first game with 16 points and a career-high five steals.
