COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team makes its final road trip of the season this weekend to play Atlantic Coast Conference foes Miami and No. 15 Florida State Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The Terrapins (13-17, 5-12 ACC) are coming off a perfect weekend of conference play, as they defeated defending ACC co-champion North Carolina last Friday, 3-1, before sweeping NC State Sunday, 3-0. It was the Terps' first weekend ACC sweep since October 2007.
Freshmen Remy McBain and Sam Rosario were instrumental in last weekend's success for the Terps. McBain posted a double-double against North Carolina with career highs in assists (33) and digs (12) and then flirted with a triple-double against NC State, posting 23 assists, eight kills and seven digs. Rosario added four service aces and averaged six digs per set in the victories.
Rosario has been solid all season, as the Terps' libero leads the ACC with 48 service aces and ranks sixth in digs per set with an average of 4.17. Rosario already has 454 digs this year, the seventh-highest single-season total in program history.
Maryland is looking for its second three-match winning streak of the season and first in ACC play since 2007. That task won't be easy, though, as Maryland faces a Miami team Friday that swept Maryland earlier this season in College Park.
The Hurricanes are 16-11 overall and 9-8 in the ACC. Miami sophomore Lane Carico leads the ACC in kills with 440 and double-doubles with 16. The Terps lead the all-time series with the Hurricanes, 7-5, though Miami has claimed the last three matchups.
No. 15 Florida State presents the most-challenging match of the season for the Terps Sunday. The Seminoles are in the midst of arguably the best season in program history. Florida State is on the verge of clinching the league title and an NCAA Tournament berth this weekend. Entering the weekend, the Seminoles are 25-2 and 16-1 in the ACC while boasting a gaudy RPI ranking of No. 3.
The Seminoles swept the Terps earlier this season in College Park and have won four straight matchups in the series. However, Maryland still owns the lead in the all-time series, 19-16.
