After three consecutive home victories to begin the season, the University of Maryland women's basketball team faces its first road test at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mississippi State.
The Terrapins are receiving votes in the AP Poll and ranked 20th in the Coaches' Poll, while the Lady Bulldogs are ranked 25th in the AP Poll and receiving votes in the Coaches' Poll. Both teams are 3-0 on the season.
Maryland is coming off an impressive, 84-67, victory Thursday against Old Dominion, where it shot 61.5 percent from the field. Sophomore Lynetta Kizer and freshman Diandra Tchatchouang have carried the scoring load for the Terps through three games. Kizer leads the team in scoring at 17.7 points per game and is averaging 8.7 rebounds a contest. Tchatchouang led all scorers against Old Dominion with 22 points and has scored in double figures all three games.
Mississippi State has cruised in its early schedule, defeating its opponents by an average of 44.7 points in those games while averaging 89 points per game. Tysheka Grimes and Alexis Rack are the leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs, averaging 16.0 and 15.3 points per game, respectively.
The Terps and Lady Bulldogs met last season in College Park, with Maryland handing Mississippi State its first loss of the season in the Terrapin Classic after an 11-0 start. Rack had a game-high 24 points in the loss, as the Terps held off a strong second-half charge.
The all-time series is tied at one game apiece.
